Get Fit Stay Fit Never Quit

Many forms of training have been developed to enhance combat performance. Everything from bodybuilding methods to the Olympic lifts have been used to develop strength and power. The functional training “buzz” and the “new” functional training methods have become very popular in today’s fitness arena. But even these new methods are hybrids of older training models, such as yoga, Pilates, medicine ball training, dumbbell training, pulley training, and of course, bodyweight training. Although often
thought of as fads, functional training methods were systemized many centuries ago; they certainly are not new. Bodyweight training, much of which was systemized and heavily influenced by ancient yoga practitioners, is by far the most cost-effective and functional form of resistance training for combat athletes, especially grapplers. You can get a great workout with limited time, space, and equipment. Bodyweight training is certainly not the only way to develop combat strength, but it is hard to beat when all is considered.
